Is InMotion Hosting a Good Company?

web hosting reviews female avatarByJennifer Posted onJanuary 30, 2026January 30, 2026
is inmotion hosting a good company

I’ve built and managed websites for years, and choosing the right hosting provider has always been a critical decision for me. When I signed up with InMotion Hosting, I expected reliable performance, strong support, and solid value. On paper, their plans looked impressive, but the real experience hasn’t lived up to those promises, especially as a UK-based user.

Based on my own experience and consistent feedback from other customers, here’s the short answer: InMotion Hosting offers decent features on paper but often underdelivers on speed, support, and overall reliability, particularly outside the US.

Key points I’ve noticed:

  • Customer support quality has declined, with limited availability
  • Server performance feels inconsistent and outdated
  • Renewal prices are high, with restrictive terms
  • Similar negative experiences appear across multiple review platforms

By the end of this review, I’ll explain why my overall view leans more critical than positive. For a deeper breakdown of features, pricing, and real-world performance, read our complete InMotion Hosting review.

What Does InMotion Hosting Offer to Website Owners?

What Does InMotion Hosting Offer to Website Owners

InMotion Hosting offers a wide range of services aimed at bloggers, developers, and small businesses. Its hosting portfolio includes shared hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, and managed WordPress plans. On paper, these plans come with business-focused features designed to appeal to growing websites.

Key features promoted by InMotion Hosting include:

  • SSD storage, free SSL certificates, and unlimited bandwidth
  • Email accounts and basic security tools
  • Developer features such as SSH access, Git integration, and multiple scripting language support
  • eCommerce tools, backups (on higher-tier plans), and marketing add-ons

While this feature list looks competitive, its real value depends on performance and support quality. For many international users, including those in the UK, inconsistent server speeds and limited support availability can significantly reduce the overall experience, making the offerings feel less dependable in practice.

Why Do Many Users Say InMotion Hosting Isn’t What It Used to Be?

Many long-term customers have expressed deep dissatisfaction with how InMotion Hosting’s service quality has declined over the years.

Take this real Reddit review, for instance:

Reddit User – r/webhosting
“If you’re considering InMotion Hosting, I have one word of advice: RUN.

An organization, that had entrusted multiple websites to InMotion, called us in a panic. Their websites are down and they get no response from the hosting company. I assumed the sites had been down for maybe 15 minutes, which would’ve been bad on its own—nope, they had been offline for two days. Unbelievable! We took the reins to help resolve this disaster, and the experience went downhill fast.

First, contacting InMotion’s support was like trying to reach a black hole. The options? Wait in a seemingly endless queue—24th in line!—or leave a number. Opting for the callback, we continued working, rebuilding a temporary site from scratch on a more reliable host (which, clearly, isn’t InMotion). Six hours later, I finally got the call back. SIX HOURS.

And who do I get? A nice enough person, sure, but with zero access to useful information and no real help to offer. They spoke in fluffy customer service lingo but provided nothing of value. The bottom line: the websites are still down, and InMotion had offered no communication during the entire 48-hour outage.

In my 30 years in the business, I’ve never encountered a web hosting company as indifferent, incompetent, and inaccessible as InMotion. If you’re thinking about using them for anything important, save yourself the nightmare. Stay far away from InMotion Hosting. The organization that contacted us has lost 100 years of so-called savings with a single event at this horribly unresponsive web host.”

This kind of feedback is becoming more common, users who have trusted the company for years are now leaving in frustration due to performance issues and unresponsive support.

There seems to be a clear disconnect between what’s advertised and what customers are actually receiving, especially when it comes to timely resolutions and technical accuracy.

What Do Customers Say About InMotion Hosting’s Support?

One of the main reasons I left InMotion Hosting was the support experience — or rather, the lack of it. While they claim to offer helpful, US-based technical support, what I often encountered was delays, vague responses, and confusion. And I’m not alone.

A Quora user echoed a similar experience:

Quora Reviewer – Shelly Leit

“I currently have an Inmotion hosting account. They are a company that has zero customer service, do not respond to support tickets, and just completely blow off paid customers with problems. I opened a support ticket for slow response times and serious error messages a week ago, and they have yet to respond with a human being response. They send out form emails with articles instead. Like I would open a support ticket instead of reading a stupid article? They are the worst website host I’ve ever had. I could not UN-recommend them more. My website on their server is never fully up, everything I do results in lags or error messages, it’s slower than molasses to load and it’s just a very simple WordPress site, which they advertise as something they do well. That could not be further from the truth. Don’t bother with them. Really terrible service!!”

This mirrors what I went through: long ticket queues, articles instead of actual help, and a general lack of urgency. For urgent matters, like downtime or security, this just isn’t acceptable, especially when your business depends on it.

As a UK-based user, the time zone gap made matters worse. Their support operates mostly during US business hours, which left me stranded during peak work times.

Does InMotion Hosting Fail to Deliver Reliable Speed and Uptime?

Does InMotion Hosting Fail to Deliver Reliable Speed and Uptime

Website speed and uptime are two metrics you can’t afford to compromise on — especially in the UK, where latency can already be an issue if the servers are located in the US. Unfortunately, InMotion Hosting didn’t hold up well in this regard.

One Trustpilot user had this to say:

Arthur K – Trustpilot, 1 Star

“Their admins are clueless. I had repeated database errors and found out they still use MyISAM, which hasn’t been standard for years. The servers are overloaded and super slow. I’m moving to a new provider.”

That reflects exactly what I noticed, slower-than-average load times and technical issues you wouldn’t expect in 2026. If you’re running WordPress or an eCommerce store, these lags can directly affect bounce rates, SEO, and conversions.

How Does InMotion Hosting Fall Short on Pricing and Plan Value?

On the surface, InMotion’s prices seem competitive. But what you discover post-purchase is that several essential features, like backups or security tools, are locked behind more expensive plans. Not to mention the spike in pricing at renewal.

For example, you might start with a £2.95/month plan but find yourself paying over £8/month after the first term. And what’s worse, even though you pay more, basic features like automated backups may still be excluded.

Let’s compare InMotion to a few other popular hosts for the UK market:

FeatureInMotion HostingSiteGroundHostingerBluehost
Starting Price (Shared Plan)£2.95/month£2.99/month£1.49/month£2.45/month
Renewal Price (Yearly)£7.99+/month£9.99+/month£3.49+/month£8.99+/month
Free Daily BackupsNo (basic plans)YesYesYes
Support AvailabilityUS Hours Only24/724/724/7

While not the most expensive, InMotion Hosting certainly doesn’t offer the best value — especially for international users who are paying premium prices without premium support.

Are Critical Features Like Backups and SSL Too Limited on Entry Plans?

Are Critical Features Like Backups and SSL Too Limited on Entry Plans

Here’s where the cracks really begin to show. Many users don’t realise that basic features such as automated backups and straightforward SSL setup are either unavailable or overly complex unless you’re on a higher plan.

This can be especially frustrating for non-technical users or small businesses trying to manage their site independently.

You might find:

  • Backup options that require manual setup or extra plugins
  • SSL installations that aren’t automatic on VPS
  • Storage space limitations that aren’t clearly explained

It’s these kinds of limitations that make the hosting experience frustrating, especially when there’s little room for flexibility or logical exceptions.

Final Verdict – What’s My Experience with InMotion Hosting?

When I first signed up with InMotion Hosting, it felt like a sensible, cost-effective choice. The feature list was appealing, the brand was well established, and getting started was straightforward. Initially, everything seemed fine.

Over time, however, consistent issues became hard to ignore. Day-to-day use exposed gaps between what was promised and what was delivered.

The main problems I experienced were:

  • Slow and inconsistent customer support
  • Noticeable performance drops, especially at peak times
  • Hidden limitations that caused ongoing frustration
  • High renewal prices that didn’t match the service quality

Eventually, I moved my sites to a provider offering true 24/7 support, stronger UK performance, and transparent pricing.

Would I recommend InMotion Hosting?

  • Not for UK-based users
  • Not for business-critical websites
  • Possibly for low-traffic, US-based hobby sites

For me, reliability, support, and transparency matter more than brand name or marketing promises, and InMotion Hosting ultimately failed to meet those expectations.
